About the Author of Graphic Design Employment.com

Nick B Davies has been working in the graphic design industry since 1987. His studio, Tinstar Design, was founded in 1997 and provides graphic design services to a wide variety of clients, from international publishing houses to corporate clients and startups. Tinstar Design operates in Lymington, a Georgian sailing town sandwiched between the New Forest National Park and the Solent on the south coast of England.

About This Website

This website has been in production since May 2007. In creating it, the intitial intention was to write a training manual for Tinstar's new employees (mainly consisting of graphic design graduates). Over the years we've trained new designers over and over again, repeatedly covering the same material. It made good sense to write some sort of manual.

With the help of the SBI system we wanted to bring the site to as many people as possible in the hope that it might fill some of the knowledge gaps and lack of confidence left by so many graphic design training courses and colleges. In our experience many designers new to the graphic design industry have been astonished at the wealth of information they weren't taught at college. Our hope is that some of the information on this website will help to 'top up' their knowledge and therefore their confidence.

Most of what you'll find on this site is considered to be basic, essential information - material that most graphic design employers would expect new designers to be familiar with. New articles are being added all the time, so check back soon.
